Northrop Auditorium
Northrop Memorial Auditorium, often referred to as simply “Northrop,” is an iconic cultural and performance venue located at the heart of the University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis. Originally opened in 1929, Northrop has served as a hub for the performing arts, hosting a wide range of events including world-class concerts, lectures, dance performances, and university ceremonies. The auditorium, named after the university’s second president, Cyrus Northrop, underwent a major renovation in 2011-2014, transforming the historic building into a modern, multi-functional space. The renovation preserved its architectural grandeur while enhancing acoustics, seating, and technological capabilities, ensuring it remains a premier destination for the arts. Today, Northrop continues to bring national and international performances to the Twin Cities while also serving as a gathering place for academic and community events.
