Champ

2026 USA Games Mascot

Champ, a four-year-old golden retriever with a heart as gold as her coat, is making history as the first-ever live mascot of the Special Olympics USA Games. Officially joining the team for the 2026 USA Games in Minnesota, Champ is more than just a mascot–she’s a beloved companion who brings joy wherever she goes. She’s also a big fan of string cheese, squeaky toys, and snuggling up with people, making her the perfect four-legged ambassador to embody the spirit of inclusion, sportsmanship, and community.

Since 2022, Champ has served as a registered therapy dog, spreading comfort and joy across the Twin Cities. She regularly volunteers at children’s hospitals, schools, libraries, and special events, where her gentle nature and wagging tail help ease stress and spark smiles. Whether cheering athletes at the finish line or cuddling with a child during a hospital visit, Champ’s mission is to bring her infectious brand of positivity to everyone she meets.

Champ (AKA Maggie) comes to the USA Games courtesy of North Star Therapy Animals of Pet Partners, a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to improving lives through the power of therapy animal teams. Founded in 2007, North Star now boasts over 200 members who bring comfort and connection to hospitals, elder care facilities, schools, libraries, and more. All of their therapy animals–including Champ–are registered with Pet Partners, an international organization that sets the highest standards for therapy animal certification. North Star’s commitment to compassion and community makes them an ideal partner for the Games.

As the official mascot, Champ will make special appearances at events leading up to the Games, raising awareness and rallying excitement for June 2026. During Games week, she’ll play an especially important role at the onsite sensory spaces at the University of Minnesota, where she will provide comfort and companionship in high-energy moments. With her love of people and gentle nature, Champ is ready to inspire smiles, ease nerves, and spread inclusion every step of the way!
