Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center
The Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center is a premier swimming and diving facility located on the University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis. Named in honor of the legendary Gophers swimming coach Jean K. Freeman, the center is renowned for its state-of-the-art amenities, including an Olympic-sized pool, a diving well, and seating for over 1,300 spectators. The center’s history dates back to its original opening in 1990 as the University Aquatic Center, serving as a host for numerous collegiate and national swimming and diving competitions, including 24 Big Ten Championships and 10 Division I NCAA Championship. In 2014, it was renamed to honor Coach Freeman’s remarkable contributions to the university’s swimming program over her 31-year tenure from 1973 to 2004, including her leading the team to two Big Ten titles in 1999 and 2000. The Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center continues to be a hub for competitive swimming and diving, fostering excellence in aquatic sports and serving as a training ground for athletes at all levels.
