Championship moments seal an unforgettable week, the torch passes to 2030, and the ultimate celebration takes over the field.
The unforgettable journey of the 2026 USA Games reached its grand finale on Friday, June 26th, wrapping up a historic week of athletic excellence and community pride. With nearly all events settled, the spotlight shifted entirely to the University of Minnesota campus for the dramatic final medal rounds in the five remaining sports: Athletics, Basketball, Bocce, Swimming, and Tennis. The competitive spirit burned as bright as ever as athletes dug deep for their final runs, matches, and heats. Following the action, emotional awards ceremonies took place across campus, capping off years of training with well-deserved hardware, loud cheers, and triumphant smiles. The clanging of medals could be herd everywhere you went for the rest of the day!
Off the field, fans flocked to the Fan Zones one last time to soak in the incredible atmosphere. The farewell party at Thrivent Fan Fest was nothing short of spectacular, featuring high-energy sets by DJ Miss Brit and an inspiring, rockin’ performance by The Positones—a classic rock cover band showcasing the incredible musical talents of adults with intellectual disabilities.
The week’s finale came later that evening at the official Closing Ceremony inside Huntington Bank Stadium. In a beautiful, poignant ceremony, the Minnesota cauldron was officially extinguished and the Special Olympics flag and Flame of Hope were passed to the city of Cleveland, the proud hosts of the 2030 USA Games. While the competition was declared officially over, the energy was far from spent. In classic Special Olympics form, the stadium transformed into a massive celebration as a legendary athlete dance party hosted by DJ Mad Mardigan broke out right on the field, ensuring every champion sent the Games off with a dance step and memories to last a lifetime!
