Finding the rhythm, dialing in focus, and welcoming the fans before the chase for gold begins.
The road to the podium officially got underway on Sunday as athletes from all 50 states took to the fields, tracks, and pools across the Twin Cities. With the spectacular energy of the Opening Ceremony still buzzing in the air, June 21st was all about preparation. Competitors spent the day adjusting to the local venues, sharpening their skills during practice sessions, and undergoing crucial divisioning—the essential process that groups athletes of similar ability levels together to ensure fair and competitive events all week long.
Off the competitive stage, the energy was just as electric. For the first time, two major celebration hubs came alive as Thrivent Fan Fest at the University of Minnesota and the MDI Fan Zone at the Mall of America opened their gates, welcoming visitors with interactive games and community fun. Meanwhile, the vital work of the Healthy Athletes program continued at a strong pace inside the Health Sciences Education Center, providing free health screenings and wellness checks to ensure every competitor is in peak form for the historic week ahead. Lastly, the Motor Activity Training Program (MATP) made its return to the national stage for the first time in 20 years with a lively demo as athletes with high support needs gathered at Ridder Arena for an afternoon of completing fun sports-themed stations.
